Two additional SLO County patients die from COVID-19 Thursday; countywide death toll reaches 14 – KSBY San Luis Obispo News

San Luis Obispo County health authorities reported Thursday two more locals in the county passed away due to COVID-19, increasing the countywide death toll to 14.
Health authorities said both people were susceptible to serious COVID-19 complications since they remained in their 80s, had underlying health conditions and lived at a congregate living center that is experiencing a break out.
According to local health officials, one of the people lived at an assisted living facility in Atascadero, while the other invested several days in the medical facility and was a homeowner of the Vineyard Hills Health Center in Templeton, which marked the 6th COVID-19-related death associated with that facility.
” Our community has been touched by more loss,” stated Dr. Penny Borenstein, the health officer of San Luis Obispo County. “This, and other break outs, is preventable. Lets all do what we can to slow the spread of COVID-19 to safeguard the most vulnerable amongst us.”
The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department is dealing with the centers to minimize the impact of the break outs, stated health officials.
Since Thursday, local health authorities reported 1,740 cases of COVID-19, the majority of whom have actually recovered.
