Next coronavirus peaks will by far exceed the current one, expert warns – Yahoo News

Contagious disease experts are cautioning Americans to reassess their priorities with winter approaching more promptly than people would like to think, bringing with it the possibility of an even worse coronavirus crisis.
The issue is many individuals arent taking advantage of the breathing space summer season offers to suppress the virus spread, choosing instead to return to pre-pandemic routines, Stat News reports. “We simply continue to misuse every bit of opportunity we get with this epidemic to get it under control,” said epidemiologist Michael Mina, an assistant teacher in Harvards T.H. Chan School of Public Health and associate medical director of clinical microbiology at Bostons Brigham and Womens Hospital.
Theres still time do that, per Stat, but if Americans do not act quickly, they can expect bleaker-than-usual winter season months. Michael Osterholm, the director of the Center for Infectious Diseases Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, predicted that, without a new lockdown or barring a reliable vaccine prior to the end of the year, winter will force individuals inside and worsen the pandemic, which he stated will see peaks “without a doubt” going beyond the one the U.S. simply experienced in current weeks.
