Authorities filed attempted murder charges in a Sunday shooting that occurred during a rally for President Donald Trump at the Statehouse.St. Charles resident Michael McKinney, 25, is in custody at Polk County Jail.Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla said McKinney admitted to firing the gunshot the struck and injured a 15-year-old girl during the rally.“Some type of an altercation, a confrontation, occurred,” Dinkla said. “What all happened in that, our investigators are trying to determine what happened in that.” Dinkla said the victim was inside a car at the rally when the shooting occurred but was not involved in the rally.Footage posted to social media shows the car with the victim inside back into a pickup truck before the shot is fired.According to Dinkla, the accident led up to the shooting.“Our investigation team has obtained some of those videos that are out there, but we would also encourage anybody that has anything that’s out there — videos or photos — make sure that you bring those to our attention,” he said. The name of the victim will not be released by authorities because she is a minor.McKinney is being held in jail on $500,000 bond.
